5th Week

As stated last week, I am transfered into new site...
This site is constructing a foodcourt centre which meant for Tourism Malaysia...
It consists of two types of constructions, they are rc and steel...
What special about this construction is where they are using caisson pile...
caisson pile meaning to say, a hole need to be dug out into required level until they found sound bedrock...
During the digging process, it is not simply easy like digging a hole which contains sands only...the ground condition consists of sands and rocks...every time when they found rocks, a blasting process will be used to crush the rocks...the blasting process need a permit from police...so everytime a blasting is required, a permit should be taken out by police...
Moreover, they also do PDT...PDT stands for Penetration Drill Test at the rocks whereby they estimate it as sound bedrock...every PDT should required 4500mm depth and every 3 feets, the drill test should be more than 2 minutes...then they can conclude that it is sound bedrock and digging process stop at there....
After finish digging, concreting will be the next...the concreting process was using tremie pipe...where the concrete is classified as tremie mix grade 30...a tremie pipe is installed into the hole then the tremie mix will be poured down into the hole...the pipe should be burried into the tremie mix about 3 feets...then concreting process can proceed...
The pictures during the process are not with me yet...so I upload the RC drawing of the caisson pile...

4th Week For First Month of Internship

Hye bloggers,
This week I managed to seat for a meeting with the developers and contractor...
In this meeting what I can conclude that, I am totally impressed with the way of the developers discussed with them for an example, if she didnot satisfied with what ever things, she will politely interprate to them without shouting or saying nasty words...She really goods in making words become a very convenient sentence where everybody can accept it eventhough they know, they had done mistakes or their job was not very good...
Moreover, I also managed to observed installation of Well Guard System...
What is Well Guard System???It is another way of making drain without having any digging process...
They consists of R.C. Panel and R.C. Post...
Here is the pictures:

What can I say, without any notice suddenly my supervisor called and ask me to follow him to another site which located at Batu Kawan...
I am feeling such guilty when I am not be able to say "bye bye" to my friends at Prai site...Ripun, Hassan, Khalid, Halim, Gopi, Abg Halim, Abg Faizal, Azan, Zaidi, Faizul, Ane Kumar, Cik Lan, Cik Man, Abg Daniel(injured while working), Abg D, Abg Man Black and every Banglas...(oh...I miss U all... T_T)

Starting 3rd May 2010 I am located at Batu Kawan where there is a construction of foodcourt centre...They want to build a foodcourt centre where people can enjoy their meal while seeing a beautiful view of sea and listening to the whispering of the waves due to its located at the seaside...

Location: Batu Kawan
Construction Start:July 2009
Construction Finish:July 2010

Sorry for not updating my blog everyday....
I want to summarize what I have done for this whole week...
I am visiting the Pump House alone...
Suddenly a Bangladeshi man came near to me and ask to me, "Mau belajar ka?"
And expressly I said "Yes"
He is actually a guard for the Pump House before Majlis Perbandaran take the Pump House...Meaning to say, he is a worker for my contractor company...He will guard the Pump House before the Pump House give to Majlis Perbandaran officially...
He explained to me everything about the Pump House...
Actually, the Pump House were undergoing an upgrading infrastructure...
They had changing the pump system and half of the structure...

Below is the plan of the structure that the had modified

Former Pump House are using a weir before the water discharged into the sea...but now, they had upgrading it by removing the weir and make the water discharged into the sea directly...
They are using ABS Submersible Propeller VUP Pump imported from German...
8 holes provided for the Pump`s placement but only 6 are fulfilled with the pumps...
The other 2 are reserved for future used...
6 Pumps consists of 2 small pumps and 4 big pumps...
The pump looks like below:

The placement of the pump inside the column is like:

Small Column=for small pump
Big Column=for big pump

Want pictures somemore?here they are:

FriDay

Hye guys...
Updating my blog with today`s activities...
What I am managed to observe today is about the slab installation...
Whenever the digging process had finished, they will do slab installation...
A 25 tonnes crane is used to carry the slab from its store place to the required area...
Once the slab is installed on the ground, they will do leveling to make sure the level between each other slab are the same...
But there is a problem today where the slab is not at the same level...
This will make the water cannot flow smoothly and for dry season, there will be a pond occurred because the flow cannot passes the higher slab because at the current state the flow is at the lower slab...So it need to be at the same level to make sure the flow will always continuous flowing...
So the site officer had discussed to put iron rod on the piles while the slab will laid down on the iron rod plus the slab...
One problem settled for today...

Assalamualaikum....
Meet again with my 4th day experience at the construction site...
Still at the same site...
Today, my job is recording the piling blows also...
Its seems like a routine job for me because they dont have any helper to record the piling blows...
So as a trainee, eventhough I am not volunteered myself, but as an ordered from my site supervisor I need to take the reading...
Today, I managed to record 10 holes of piling blows...
The piling process cannot be continued because the extension piles are not enough...
So need to wait for the piles to come so then can continue my job as a pile recorder...hehehe....
Around 4pm, going back to the site office and having some discussion with my site supervisor...
We were talking a lot with a subject of "Piling"
He asked me lots of question on piling to make sure I am well known with it...

Here are some information regarding what I am talking about...

Process: Standard Penetration Test (known as piling at construction site)
Weight of hammer used: 3 tonnes
Drop of hammer: 300mm
Piles: 9m(starter with pile shore), 9m(extension) and 6m(extension)
Total depth of the piling process: 24m + 2m of dolly = 26
Dolly: It is a steel pile used to drive pile inside the ground based on the depth required because sometime the required depth cannot be achieved due to the piling hammer cannot go inside the ground for example 2m in this situation. So, dolly will be used to help the hammer to drive more the extension pile inside the ground until achieved the required depth.
Time required per hole: 5-10 minutes
workers: A piling crane driver and his helper

It`s totally tired when one whole day being burn under sunny wheather...
My job today was to take reading no of blows of piling process...
Now, I know already how to take and count no of blows of the piles...
Moreover I know how to read no of holes by looking into the plan and determine which hole should be piled...
I also had learn new thing for such how the pile is joint between 1 pile to another by knowing what method they are using and what kind of materials are used...
Besides that, the site officer also ask me to count the L-shape rc concrete for him to make sure that which sizes should be ordered...
There are different sizes of L-shape for the drain according to the plan that design by the consultant...
The different sizes are to make sure the drain have slope to ensure the water will flow smoothly...
By looking roughly into it, you would not see the differences depth...but from the plan, you can see which length should have big sizes or small sizes...

Hari Kedua (2nd Day)

Another excitement day with visiting the infrastructure drainage system in Prai, Penang. The company is undergoing the process of upgrading the current drainage system to bigger drain. There are about two different location of the drainage system. First, the flow will go through Station Pump A while the other one, the flow will go through Station Pump B. Both flow are coming from Prai industrial park. Why the drain should be changed to much more bigger? It is because the current drainage system cannot support the flow during peak hour due to heavy rain or monsoon season. Moreover, it is also to prevent flood.
The drainage system which will flow through Station Pump A is already finish. Now, they are working on the second drainage system which the flow will go through the Station Pump B. The pump is for pumping the flow from flat land to sea. Why pump is needed? From the briefing, the sea level is actually higher than the flat land. So, that is why pump is needed to pump out the flow from flat land to the sea to prevent overflow.
Let me brief about how the drain looks like. The drain consist of L-shape and Slab rc concrete with rc piles.
Before starting the work, the surveyor will come and overview the place for the leveling process. After the surveyors done the jobs, they will give data about the levels of the drain and the location of the process of digging the hole to make the drain.
Then, the level will be mark. At certain location, the level will be different so the marking process should be done accurately to make sure the drainage system straight.
After the marking system done, the piling process will be the next. 250x250mm piles are used with 21m depth. (will be brief more once I am experiencing about the piling process)
Once the piling done, they will make coffer dam with using sheet pile to prevent the soil from collapse during the digging process.
When the digging process finish, the slab will be placed on the piles and screw them for tightening. Then, the L-shape concrete will be placed on top of the slab. The L-shape also will be screwed to tighthen between the slab and piles to make sure they are stay at where they are placed.
The finishing process will be on touch up the gap between the slab and L-shape and between L-shape and L-shape. The material that used for filler are sika. Sika is one of the filler used to fill in the gap appeared between the concrete.
The picture will be uploaded soon!!!

First Day

Today,

Walked in to the office

Seat and waiting

Till the secretary called upon

Be introduced to Encik Sukri as my supervisor

Good explaination on rough idea about what a trainee should do

After that, being pointed to my 1st site project known as

"Upgrading Works at Pumping Station, Prai"

Encik Faizal as the engineer overthere had give a brief explaination about the project

and by that lots of questions in mind come out

All the theories should recall back cause when time passed by some memory had lost

Most of the time was spending in the site office by studied the plans and documents

Tomorow another excitement journey will go on
